Merriam-Webster defines the word insight as “the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively”. As I’ve grown older, I’ve become skeptical of metrics such as IQ to measure something as unmeasurable as human intelligence. But if there is a measure of genius, it’s the power of the human mind to consider sparse and disparate data, make seemingly impossible connections between these data, and reach totally new and sometimes brilliant insights into the nature of things. It’s a mysterious process not amenable to Aristotelian logic, but one thing’s for sure; it happens. And when it does happen, the world cries out “Of course. That’s obvious.” The world is dead wrong of course. The true nature of something as complex as the subsurface is only obvious after the fact, and helping our customers reveal it is our mission at GVERSE GeoGraphix.
In our last two major releases, we’ve worked tirelessly to make GVERSE Geophysics a premier tool for geophysical interpretation and just as diligently make GVERSE Geomodeling the go-to platform for building geologically accurate subsurface models. Now our challenge is to integrate these disciplines to form easier connections – connections in our customer’s minds.
Software, even AI, is an enabler of human intelligence, not a substitute for it. It’s strength lies in its ability to rapidly collate disparate data into a coherent whole. So, in our latest release we’re unifying color palettes, enabling better cursor tracking, opening cross sections as seismic arblines and displaying seismic geobodies as backdrops along wells. In future releases we’ll be adding more frac and completions data into the mix. So how does this reduce CAPEX? Because reducing CAPEX revolves around finding answers to questions such as:
- What is my optimal completion strategy?
- What is my optimal well spacing?
- Where is my best reservoir rock?
They’re hard questions to answer, and answering these questions requires combining geology, geophysics, and engineering into unified view of the subsurface. Moving forward, our mission is to supply the view. You supply the insights.
