The leap from theoretical learning to real world analysis of sustainable resource plays is huge. With a view to ensure that students taking this opportunity have all the support and commitment that they need from the industry, LMKR played its part by providing GeoGraphix and GVERSE Connect software to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB) for this year’s IBA competition.
This partnership not only enabled the Geology Program at UTPB to take advantage of LMKR technology; but also the infrastructure that comes with LMKR’s continued support and commitment to educational and research programs around the globe.
“It has become increasingly important that UTPB is connected to the industries that it serves. Such partnerships provide our students with the opportunity to operate in a professional and an intellectually challenging environment that puts them in “real world” situations and helps in enhancing their skills. This opportunity is especially appropriate for our students due to the association of hydrocarbon exploration to the welfare of the people of the Permian Basin” said Dr. Michael Zavada, Dean College of Arts and Sciences, University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
This is not the first time that we have donated our software in support of advancing education. LMKR strives to provide students with opportunities to learn in classrooms, conduct cutting edge research or participate in competitions like the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award. We will continue to do so in the future as well.
About AAPG Imperial Barrel Award: AAPG’s Imperial Barrel Award Program (IBA) is an annual prospective basin evaluation competition for geoscience graduate students from universities around the world. University teams compete to win scholarship funds for their geoscience department and the international recognition that comes from competing or winning in the competition. The program is rigorous and contributes to AAPG’s mission of promoting petroleum geoscience training and advancing the careers of geoscience students.
